• Thorough Cleaning: Professionals use specialized equipment and non-abrasive cleaning solutions that remove buildup without damaging the glass or underlying technology.
• Safety First: Climbing onto rooftops to clean panels is dangerous. Experienced technicians know how to clean safely and effectively.
• Optimized Efficiency: Clean panels absorb more sunlight, directly increasing energy production.

Protection Against Portland's Rising Electricity Rates

Portland electricity rates have increased significantly in recent years. In March 2026, the Oregon Public Utility Commission approved another 5% rate increase for PGE residential customers, effective April 1, 2026. Pacific Power customers saw a 2.9% increase at the same time.

These hikes are being driven by grid modernization projects and wildfire mitigation costs. AI data centers and cloud computing expanding across the region add enormous energy demand. There is no realistic reason to expect this trend to reverse.

A battery storage system paired with solar lets you do two things simultaneously:

Generate your own power during the day from solar panels

Store and deploy that power at night or during peak rate hours when grid electricity is most expensive

The result is a dramatically reduced dependence on utility pricing that is largely outside your control.

What Happens During a Power Outage Without a Battery

Not every battery storage system is the same, and Portland's climate adds specific considerations. Here is what matters most when evaluating your options:

Cold-weather performance - Portland winters are mild but damp. Confirm your battery is rated for consistent performance in cool, wet conditions.

Capacity sizing - A battery sized too small will drain before morning. A proper installer will calculate your actual overnight usage before recommending a system size.

Smart inverter compatibility - Your battery and solar panels need to communicate efficiently. Mismatched equipment can reduce the effectiveness of both systems.

Backup circuit coverage - Decide in advance which appliances you need during an outage: heating, refrigerator, medical equipment. This determines how your system is wired.

Warranty terms - Most quality batteries carry a 10-year warranty. Understand what the capacity retention guarantee looks like over that period.

Working with a local installer who understands PGE's net metering rules and Oregon's incentive programs is genuinely important. The details vary by utility and change regularly.
